The Vivo NEX S ushers in the all-display era

Vivo teased an all-display smartphone in MWC 2018 in the form of the APEX FullView. Vivo has just officially announced their first consumer-available all-display smartphone: the Vivo Nex S.

The Vivo NEX S’ display comes with a whopping 91.24 screen-to-body ratio dubbed as the UItra FullView Display. It comes with a 6.59-inch Super AMOLED display with a 2316 x 1080 resolution and a taller than usual 19.3:9 aspect ratio.

To achieve an all-screen display, Vivo has moved the 8MP f/2.0 front-facing camera to the top of the smartphone which rises whenever the front-facing camera is activated. The speaker has also been moved behind the display, which Vivo calls their Screen SoundCasting Technology.

The fingerprint sensor has also been integrated to the display like the APEX FullView concept and the soon to be released X21UD. This means that the Vivo NEX S comes with a cleaner look with minimal interference.

As for its main camera, the NEX S comes with a dual rear camera setup: a 12MP f/1.8 primary camera backed by a 5MP f/2.4 secondary shooter.

To give the smartphone its needed horsepower to compete with the competition, the NEX S comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC with 8GB of RAM as well as up to 256GB of internal storage depending on the SKU. The NEX S will run on Android 8.1 Oreo with Vivo’s trademark FunTouch OS 4.0 on top. To power all whole smartphone is a 4,000mAh battery with support for QuickCharge.
