Vivo has a tendency of showing their future tech in events like MWC. In MWC Shanghai 2018, the brand flaunted their Time of Flight (TOF) 3D Sensing Technology to promise a future shift in imaging, AR, and human-machine interaction.

Vivo is expecting that their new tech will change consumer lifestyles with better immersion and smart capability in their smartphones. The brand’s TOF 3D Sensing Technology detects the time it takes emitted pulse light with its 300,000 sensor points to return to the sensor to accurately map objects at up to three meters in front of it. It also enables new opportunities in facial, gesture, and motion recognition, 3D photography, and AR.

With most manufacturers nowadays focusing on AI, the combination of the TOF 3D Sensing Technology and AI can capture entire objects using 3D modelling. This allows its users to scan and recreate entire objects digitally.

No word yet as to when Vivo will be using their new TOF 3D Sensing Technology in a mainstream smartphone but we expect it to come in the near future.
