Vivo first showed their in-display fingerprint scanning tech back in Mobile World Congress 2017. In CES 2018, however, they are now ready to mass produce smartphones that have the wordl’s first in-display fingerprint scanning.
Unlike the original demo which had Qualcomm’s ultrasonic fingerprint technology, Vivo’s latest in-display fingerprint scanning cellphone is supported by their global partner Synaptics.
The tech works by integrating an in-display fingerprint sensor on the OLED panel of the smartphone just behind the glass panel of the smartphone. UBI Research predicts that bezelless displays will grow market share from 20% last year to more than 50% by 2020. As move to an era of full-screen displays, this in-display technology will allow smartphone manufacturers to accommodate new features and new user habits and demands for bigger screens without sacrificing user experience.
Unfortunately, there’s no specifications yet about Vivo’s upcoming smartphone. We’ll know more as we go through 2018. Perhaps this will be the new trend in smartphones this 2018.
