vivo and ZEISS is bringing their expertise in cameras to the V series for the first time since their partnership back in 2021 with the X60. With the more affordable position of the V series, people can now experience the ZEISS experience at a relatively lower cost from flagship smartphones.
ZEISS is offering both hardware and software on the vivo V30 Pro. The smartphone has three rear cameras: a 50MP f/1.88 VCS True Color Main camera with OIS, a 50MP f/2.0 Ultrawide, and a 50MP f/1.85 ZEISS Portrait Telephoto camera with 2x Zoom and 50mm Focal Length. Its ZEISS camera is important to get that “portrait look” as its 50mm focal length is one of the most used focal lengths for portrait photography in DSLRs and is claimed to have the closest field of view to our own eyes.
The camera app lets you access more options than other smartphones. Aside from the usual options like Photo, Video, and Panorama, its Portrait Mode includes famed ZEISS filters such as Biotar, Planar, Distagon, Sonnar, and Cinematic. They are here to enhance your photography skills, but you’re still in control on who and what to shoot.
One of our favorites is the ZEISS Biotar filter. It mimics the renowned look of the old Biotar lens and its swirly background bokeh. This effect works great if there are plenty of little lights behind your subjects or when there’s a lot of “komerobi” or sunlight leaking through trees.
Another standout is the ZEISS Planar style. Much like Biotar, it likes taking photos with plenty of singular lights in the background. Instead of swirling the backdrop, however, it softens it and the glow of distant lights are turned into ovals for a distinct look.
Even without using any of the ZEISS portrait filters, the vivo V30 Pro can still pump out impressive-looking portraits. Thanks to both company’s efforts, subjects look sharp while the scenery behind look soft. Even the cutouts that plagued previous smartphones are now gone due to improved algorithms.
If you think that the bokeh of your portraits are too much or too little, you can adjust the bokeh settings via the Album app. You can choose the portion of the subject you want focused and adjust the aperture from f/0.95 all the way to f/16. This way you can take portraits without worrying that you might mess up the bokeh.
You will definitely encounter situations that ambient light won’t be good enough to take photos when you’re out at night. Thanks to the Aura Portrait 3.0 system, however, you’ll be able to get photos at any lighting condition.
Some may say that the Aura Portrait 3.0 is just a stronger rear-mounted LED flash – but it’s much more than that. The flash is strong, but it can match the temperature of the environment to get a well-lit photo that doesn’t have an aggressive “LED Flash” look to it.
Some of the use cases of the Aura Portrait 3.0 is situations where the background has strong light sources and the subject is dim. In some cases, bumping up the sensitivity of the camera to bring out the subject will result with the background becoming brighter. The V30 Pro resolves this issue by lighting up the subject just enough to be on par with the background, so you get a nice-looking photo.
Aside from bringing ZEISS to a more affordable category, vivo equips the V30 Pro with hardware that will let you perform throughout the day all within a slim body. Encased within its 7.45mm is a MediaTek Dimensity 8200 chipset paired with 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM, which should be able to give you all the performance you need be it for gaming, browsing the web, or multitasking.
The device also packs a 6.78-inch 2800 x 1260 display so you can view your photos easily or experience a smoother gaming and browsing experience thanks to its 120Hz refresh rate.
Much like the V30, the vivo V30 Pro comes with a 5,000mAh battery to allow you to take photos throughout the day. If it does go flat eventually, it supports 80W Flash Charge that fills up its battery within 48 minutes, which means that you wait less and get to do more with your day.
The vivo V30 Pro 5G is priced at PhP 34,990 in the Philippines and comes with a 12GB/512GB configuration. You can get it via vivo’s official website, Shopee, and Lazada, or through their concept stores, authorized retailers, and kiosks nationwide.
