vivo V40: Pro ZEISS Experience Without the Price Tag

The vivo V40 has arrived in the Philippines and it is one of the most affordable smartphones out there to be co-engineered with ZEISS. Much like its predecessors, it aims to bring professional-level photography to more people by offering better optics without the flagship price tag.

Bringing ZEISS to the Midrange

Co-engineered by ZEISS, the vivo V40 comes with three ZEISS shooters: a 50MP f/1.88 OIS main camera, a 50MP f/2.0 ultrawide, and a 50MP f/2.0 front-facing camera. Given its pedigree, vivo promises spectacular snaps on all of its lenses.

Even though all of its cameras are capable, taking center stage is its 50MP f/1.88 OIS main camera. Powered by the Samsung ISOCELL GJN sensor and paired with optical image stabilization, it’s able up your photography skills even if conditions are suboptimal.

Of course, the highlight of its photography repertoire is its Portrait Mode. Thanks to its partnership with ZEISS, vivo is able to recreate the portraiture of Zeiss lenses on a more portable formfactor. You’ll just need to choose the Zeiss look that you want like Biotar, Sonnar, or Planar among others on the V40 ’s portrait mode.

If you’re having trouble getting just the right framing on your shots, the vivo V40 has got you with ZEISS Multifocal Portrait. Like its name suggests, you’ll be able to choose several focal lengths (think zoom levels) including 24mm, 35mm, and 50mm. This enables you to choose from tight framing that focuses on the subject or include some of the background for a wider take.

AI and Lighting to Back Your Photography Skills

Even though your photography skills improve, there are somethings that you can’t control. Sometimes, the lighting might be off or just too dark and other people and objects are in the form. No worries though, vivo has implemented just the right tools to help you out.

To help with lighting conditions, the V40 is equipped with AI Aura Light. It promises a 33% increase in brightness compared to its predecessor and a softer, natural lighting. Thanks to AI, it can match the brightness and temperature of the light, just enough to make your subject clear and well-lit.

Its lighting system also support AI 3D Studio Lighting. Using AI algorithms, it can recognize 3D facial light and virtually fill light on darker areas.

Both these AI Lighting tricks allow you to get good-looking portraits without worrying about lighting conditions.

For the unavoidable situations that something unwanted gets captured in the frame, be it a person or object, the V40’s AI Erase has your back. Thanks to AI, you can remove them without any hassle and the replacement blends well in the photo.

Stylish Design with Capable Internals

Aside from photography, the vivo V40 still has plenty to offer in terms of hardware. It comes with a Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chip complemented by 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of internal storage. This enables you to multitask and play games without slowing down.

vivo has managed to fit a 5,500mAh battery in its 7.58mm thin chassis – 500mAh more than the usual 5,000mAh batteries that we see in similar devices – keeping you running for longer throughout the day. When it does need to be charged, it supports 80W FlashCharge to keep downtimes to a minimum.

Its chassis is IP68 and IP69 dust and water resistant, which makes it resilient to both splashes and high-pressure jets of liquid. It also comes with a 6.78-inch 2800 x 1260 120Hz AMOLED screen.

Price and Availability

The vivo V40 is priced at PhP 26,999 and PhP 29,999 for its 12GB/256GB and 12GB/512GB variants in the Philippines, respectively. You’ll be able to get it Lotus Purple, Ganges Blue, and Titanium Gray colorways.

You can now get the device through vivo’s official Shopee, Lazada, and website, as well as authorized retailers, concept stores, and kiosks nationwide.
