Vivo Y16 – Unboxing and Initial Impressions

Earlier this month, we reported that Vivo is now holding a spot as one of the top 5 smartphone brands in the Philippines. With the huge success of their smartphones, it looks like they don’t plan on stopping. Today we’re going to have a look at their new Y16 smartphone. Read on for our unboxing and initial impressions.

Vivo Y16 – Unboxing

For the unboxing, the contents inside the box is fairly straight-forward. Once you open the lid, you will be greeted with the Vivo Y16 itself, covered in protective plastic. Beneath that is a smaller packet containing the sim card ejector tool, some paper works, a USB-type C charging cable and the compact 10W charging brick.

Vivo Y16 – Build and Design

When you look at this phone for the first time, it’s not hard to tell that this phone is premium-looking — it has a trendy look that can match anyone’s aesthetic. At the back, you will be greeted with two large smartphone camera lenses that’s seemingly surrounded by a different rectangular texture at the top left section of the device.

The device that we have is a gold color-way called Drizzling Gold and the rear panel is constructed with a diagonal pattern —. Honestly, with color and textured finish, the Vivo Y16 is an eye-catching smartphone. I do like the subtle holographic effect this finish has especially when subjected to bright lighting.

Vivo Y16 – Display and Camera

Flipping the Vivo Y16 around is a large 6.5-inch Full IPS display with a slim 0.8, 2.5D curvature and a flat frame. It has a refresh rate of 60hz and features a small teardrop-style notch at the top center which houses a 5-megapixel sensor selfie shooter. On top of that is a speaker earpiece to provide stereo sound. Vivo is pretty good at handling the display as the Y16 sports very thin bezels at the sides that provides a pleasurable viewing experience while having a non-distracting chin at the bottom.

Moving to the side of the device, there isn’t anything present on the left. Over on the right is where you’ll find the volume rocker keys and the lock button that doubles as a fingerprint sensor to provide biometric security. At the top is where you’ll find the dual sim tray slot. Finally, over the bottom is the USB-C port, main microphone, single bottom-firing speaker and a much-appreciated headphone jack.

Vivo Y16 – Internal Specs

As for what is underneath the smartphone, the Vivo Y16 is accompanied with a MediaTek Helio P35 chipset. It also comes with 4 gigabytes of RAM with a feature of having an additional 1 gigabyte through extended RAM, either 128 or 64 gigabytes of internal storage and runs on Funtouch OS 12  based on Android 12. Keeping everything powered is a 5,000 mAh capacity battery with support for 10W charging. It also features Multi Turbo 5.5 and an Ultra Game Mode feature that we’re sure to test in our full review.

When it comes to the main cameras, the Vivo Y16 uses a dual camera setup with a 13-megapixel primary shooter and 2-megapixel depth sensor. We’ll check them out when we get into it deeper in our full review of the device.

Vivo Y16 – Initial Impressions

The Vivo Y16 seems to be a reasonable budget smartphone to consider due to its trendy build quality and large 5000 mAh battery capacity inside a slim and light body. For now, tune in for the upcoming full review of this enticing smartphone from Vivo.
