vivo’s dedication to improving their imaging technology with their X series smartphones is simply appreciative, while most brands focus on Software and AI to produce the best output the steps of vivo in the new X80 and X80 Pro are simply amazing.
One of the prominent features of vivo in their X80 series compared to before is the new V1+ Chip that dedicatedly controls the needed processing in images to decide the best scenario for any given time. This is even enhanced with tons of features that vivo focused on the X80 Pro and X80 that simply can impress any imaging geek.
The photo on the left is a non-AI photo set to manual, simulating if a camera simply shoots the image without any analysis, on the right is with the AI activated which literally activates night and day. Mind you that exposure to light was very minimal and it’s still able to capture the clouds properly.
If you haven’t known who Zeiss is, it’s a producer of glass for imaging and even on your eyeglasses, producing one of the best solutions when it comes to less refracting glass. The fewer refraction results in fewer glares and even flares in images, which leads to finer details preserved for the sensor and ultimately less stress on the AI V1+ Chip to clean and instead enhance.
The 50MP f/1.6 Sony IMX866 sensor on the vivo X80 Pro assisted with an laser auto focus along with 8 MP, f/3.4, (periscope telephoto), 1/4.4″, 1.0µm, PDAF, OIS, 5x optical zoom 12 MP, f/1.9, 50mm (telephoto) and 1/2.93″, 1.22µm, Dual Pixel PDAF, 2x optical zoom, gimbal OIS.
All of these can do outstanding shots depending on the scenario needed whether near,
Despite any scenario, we throw at the X80 Pro, either bright LEDS fighting for focus or even a super dark scenario it all handled well the photo to take the best shot. Though there is the usual long exposure hold, we didn’t mind as the AI technology was clear and UI was intuitive
These imaging improvements are definitely impressive given our first impression with the vivo X80 Pro, truly the company has stepped up a notch with their own imaging chip and deeper Zeiss partnership. Samsung and Apple will definitely have a new competitor to look up to given the developments, perhaps one thing vivo should only look out for is how simple is their interface to point and shoot compared to its top competitors.
We do understand that vivo is inserting a lot of features, but this still caters most to the techies rather than the simplistic flagship market. So we look forward to the improvements and UI optimization vivo will do in the future.
Additionally, the vivo X80 series delivers outstanding performance with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 for the X80 Pro and Density 9000 processor, both top-notch processors that can handle most you need today.
At the back is a gorgeous anodized glass anti-fingerprint body which is available in Cosmic Black (X90 Pro) and Urban Blue (X80). Two colors that are interesting taste and refreshing compared to the previous diamond reflective surfaces found in the previous series.
Both devices have 4700mAh / 4500mAh respectively with a ridiculous 80W wired dual-engine charging for a full charge in just around 30 minutes. Plus, even a bonus 50W wireless charging capability, so we look forward to this standard to even be better battery management.
vivo and Zeiss will also have a strong uplift in photography with its upcoming Masterclass execution, featuring the top photographers of today’s generation like Peter Van Agaetmel, Issa Barte, E-Jay Zhang, and more. This will be introduced as the vivo X80 series will be launched to more markets globally this June 2022.
