The new Warhammer 40,000 Combat Patrol for the Space Marines is now available on shelves. With the number of models in it, some players may find it a good box to start with. Or is it? In this article, we compile the savings, discounts, and other details that you need to know before you purchase this combat patrol.

Terminators + Teleport Homer | 6 |
Total of 13 Models in the Space Marines Combat Patrol, including the Teleport Homer for the Terminators.
The box is led by two characters, a Captain in Terminator Armor and a Librarian in Terminator Armor.
Unlike the boxed version of the models inside the Space Marines Combat Patrol, the models included in the kit are all monopose. This means that their poses cannot be altered, their weapons are pre-configured, and you cannot introduce any variety unless you do some customization.
Oddly enough, the Starter Kit, which contains more models, a rulebook, and tools for you to start your WH40K journey, has more value than the Space Marine Combat Patrol and IS ACTUALLY CHEAPER. What it lacks though is a Librarian in Terminator Armor. But then again, you’re getting everything with significantly less price and if you don’t like Tyranids, you can sell them to get enough cash for a Librarian in Terminator Armor. The pricing is weird but if you can get a Starter Kit, get it instead of this Combat Patrol.
The table below calculates each of the box contents and compares to how much you can save by buying the Combat Patrol. Compared to buying each model separately, you get to save 6.15% ($179.00 vs. $168) if you buy the Space Marines Combat Patrol in the US or 11.97% (£113.60 vs. £100.00) if you buy it in the UK.
Units | Price Per Box ($) | Price Per Box (£) | Models Per Box | Models in Combat Patrol Box |
---|---|---|---|---|
Terminators + Teleport Homer | $65.00 | £42.50 | 5 | 5 |

Combat Patrols are what we can call “discount” boxes in the hobby. They contain a good amount of models that would cost more if you buy each one of them separately. Combat Patrols are also a good way to enter the hobby as it gives you the minimum amount of units to play the smallest game in Warhammer 40,000. For painters and collectors, these boxes are also godsend given that they contain a good variety of things to paint and collect.
