Fast Charging has come a long way since 2014 before we were only able to reach 2.4A in charging which translate to roughly 12W of power. But fast forward today, various companies have introduced their fast charging technology that aims to redefine not only the battery life but also the waiting time in charging your phone.
Let’s take a look at three popular devices today with their current charging technology. We made a side by side charging comparison between the iPhone XS Max (2,942mAh), Huawei Mate 20 Pro (4,200mAh) and the OPPO R17 Pro (3,600mAh bi-cell).
First is the Huawei Mate 20 Pro with SuperCharge 2.0 that can do 40W charging using its dedicated charger head and Type-C cable.
Next is the OPPO R17 Pro with its SuperVOOC technology that can charge a 10V 5A method in two batteries. Making it charge at a fast rate of 50W, twice as fast as the previous 5V 4A charging rate (20W) with the first generation VOOC.
Lastly, we have the iPhone XS Max with its 5V 1A charger and standard lightning cable. Nothing spectacular but we will see how long it fully charges.
We fully charge each device from zero charges and simultaneously opened the charger using an extension. Now, we opened the “Charger Testing” app and set all phones in maximum brightness and zero display dimming. While this method is longer to charge, we can see here the best phone to optimize charging even in heavy temperature demand.
The results are not that surprising
15 mins | 30 mins | 45 mins | 60 mins | 120mins | 240mins | |
iPhone XS Max | 5% | 8% | 13% | 16% | 29% | 63% |
Huawei Mate 20 Pro | 24% | 48% | 64% | 78% | FULL AT 105 Mins | FULL |
OPPO R17 Pro | 53% | 86% | FULL AT 42 MINS | FULL | FULL | FULL |
We didn’t bother completing the charge for the iPhone XS Max as the result is obvious that it would reach around 5 hours to fully charge. But this shows that OPPO’s SuperVOOC charging is superior right now with Huawei Super Charge goes to second.
You might be asking where is the Qualcomm Quick Charge 4.0 tech here, unfortunately, our last test was with the ASUS ROG Phone that took 115 mins to fully charge, still a little shy from Huawei SuperCharge at 105mins.
If you’re into fast charging technology, you can’t go wrong with OPPO’s SuperVOOC technology and which the OPPO R17 Pro currently only have in the Philippines right now. To be able to fully charge in 42mins is outstanding and we’re super spoiled in the time using this phone.
