Some solutions that allow you to use a mirrorless camera or a DSLR as a webcam require a capture card. Luckily, Sony has updated their Imaging Edge software to include webcam functionality without purchasing a separate capture card.

In order to use your Sony camera as a webcam, you’ll need to change the USB Connection option on your camera to PC Remote. Connect the device to your USB port using the included cable or data-enabled cable.

Once plugged in, download the Sony’s Imaging Edge Webcam software to your PC. Launch the software and once the camera is detected, you can now use the camera as a webcam for your online conferences or meetings.

There is a catch, however, only select cameras will support Imaging Edge Webcam:

  • Alpha 7S III
  • Alpha 9 II
  • Alpha 9
  • Alpha 7R IV
  • Alpha 7R III
  • Alpha 7R II
  • Alpha 7S II
  • Alpha 7S
  • Alpha 7 III
  • Alpha 7 II
  • Alpha 6600
  • Alpha 6500

  • Alpha 6300
  • Alpha 6100
  • RX100 VII
  • RX100 VI
  • RX0 II

Sony says that the software will also support older A-mount cameras as well as DSC/Vlogging cameras. You can check out the full list here.
