YouTube Shorts will now be longer as the company updates it to support videos of up to 3 minutes starting October 15, 2024. This was apparently a top requested feature by creators to provide more flexibility to storytelling.
The increased duration of YouTUbe Shorts will be a “going forward update.” Previous videos will not be affected to the change. Aside from the increase length, Shorts will be receiving quality of life updates with a streamlined player with less clutter.
YouTube will be implementing templates on Shorts. If you find a Short that you like, you can now recreate it by tapping “Remix” on a video and select “Use this template” to create your own version, and you can even use multiple clips across YouTube.
If you dislike YouTube Shorts, they are also introducing an option to “Show fewer Shorts.” This can be accessed via the settings menu to temporarily lessen Shorts in your Home feed.
