ZenFone Live – What’s good and bad about this lifestyle-eccentric phone?

-

“Your friend is live! Go check them out!” you always get this notification in your feed and you’ll get disappointed with a crappy feed or sometimes low-quality live stream. That’s why ASUS looked into this opportunity and made the new ZenFone Live.

The ZenFone Live is a 5″ HD IPS smartphone that has a dedicated hardware and software for beautification in both Facebook Live or Youtube Live. The front camera is 5MP with extra-large 1.4μm pixels which are 2x more sensitive to light as compared to regular cameras.

They want you to focus more on the pixel size (Similar to this phone) as in this age megapixels don’t really matter anymore. You should be looking more into pixel size, HDR capabilities, and even autofocus.

It even has two microphones for noise canceling of ambient sounds and let you be heard even more (Just like taking a phone call). It seems ASUS thought of everything for the Facebook or Youtube Live junkie, but of course here are the challenges this smartphone will face.

Developing internet speeds –  We Filipinos love getting fast internet speeds and streaming Facebook live is slowly being a part of our lives. But it seems for the price range of Php6,995 (Phone’s SRP), it will take some time before this trend catches on into the mass market.

Internet usage – Aside from getting good internet speeds, your data bucket is probably limited unless you’re in a fiber connection environment via Wi-Fi. Remember that streaming live requires fast upload speeds (And yes, out telcos are doing upgrades now about our new generation of digital need). Streaming data also takes a toll into your download data bucket, so it might inhibit you to do streaming when you’re low in data.

But with those problems faced, it seems ASUS in on a good start going into the lifestyle-eccentric approach of phones. For Php6,995 the ZenFone Live is powered by a decent Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor, 2GB RAM and 16GB storage.

Overall, the ZenFone Live brings the unique mix to the table. It is enough to catch your attention with its lifestyle-eccentric features and maybe, even the price point of Php6,995 for an international company is tempting. As compared to other ZenFones with the same price range, ASUS definitely learned and is now ready to attack the entry-level market again.
