When it comes to gaming, wireless gaming mice are at the bottom of things that I often consider. I found them unreliable in the past, only suitable for browsing and writing documents. Often times, gaming variants are also more expensive and have less features. That changed when I tried the ASUS TUF Gaming M4 Wireless, a wireless gaming mouse that does not break the bank. Is it actually good? Let’s find out in this review!

TUF Gaming M4 Wireless Review – Up Close
No RGB Lighting
Nothing lights up with the M4 Wireless except its warning LED. By default, it only lights up when you press the DPI button. There are no RGB gimmicks here and you cannot change the settings of the light. Likely due to battery life conservation. If you want a solid black wireless gaming mouse, then consider this one.
The AAA Battery Converter
The package comes with a converter that you might mistake as just a plastic casing. I initially thought of it as fancy packaging for the AAA battery included in the package. Good thing I decided to read the manual before shoving it into the can. Do not make the same mistake as I did if you find yourself buying this mouse!

ASUS Armoury Crate For All-Around View
To maximize the features of the ASUS M4 Wireless, you need to have the ASUS Armoury Crate installed on your PC. It is ASUS’ all-in-one program that allows you to view attached ASUS hardware and peripherals. You can use this to view the M4 Wireless’ battery levels, key bindings, DPI settings, sleep mode, and low battery warning threshold. You can also use this program to easily update the mouse’s firmware.
6 Programmable Buttons
Using the ASUS Armoury Crate, you can bind the keys of the TUF Gaming M4 Wireless to your liking. Like with the M4 Air, you can quickly open programs at the press of a button buttons for quick access. You can also assign it to type in multiple keys. However, there is no macro feature that you can use here. This means that you won’t be able to string together commands with a single click.
Rough Texture
Probably the most noticeable trait when using the TUF Gaming M4 Wireless is its texture. It is not the usual smooth-surfaced gaming mouse usually sold in the market. It has a rough feel to it for gripping. This rough surface texture covers only the right and left clickers, half of the left side, and the body of the mouse.
In The Depths Settle The Dirt
Due to the TUF Gaming M4 Wireless’ design, dirt can find itself settling between the left and right mouse buttons. This can be a chore to clean as you may need small earbuds to get the corners when cleaning this thing.
Battery-Life & Maintenance
Battery life is pretty standard. The M4 Wireless shuts down after idling for a couple of minutes, allowing it to conserve batteries. You do however have to wiggle it a bit in order to power it up back again. It can be pretty jarring at first but you are likely not going to idle for extended periods of time during gaming. You can also tweak this setting using the ASUS Armoury Crate
Use Bluetooth For More Juice
Bluetooth also extends the battery life of the M4 Wireless by almost twice that of using the USB dongle for RF transmission. Best use the Bluetooth feature if you have a compatible PC. It can be a chore to configure if you are on desktop, but definitely worth it in the long run.
TUF M4 Wireless Review – Verdict & Conclusion
Quality Wireless Without Breaking The Bank
The TUF Gaming M4 Wireless is definitely a great wireless gaming mouse. It is practical while offering most of what you need in a gaming mouse. Out of the box, it is already versatile with its AAA battery converter and its Bluetooth compatibility. This helps it to be readily compatible with most devices, be it gaming or not. Although I am personally not a fan of using wireless gaming mice on desktop, I can heartily recommend this one for those that game on laptops.
Pricing & Availability
The ASUS TUf Gaming M4 Wirelss is available in the Philippines and is priced at PHP 2,590. PhP 400 more expensive than the lighter but wired M4 Air (review here).
