Pulling the ROG Azoth Extreme out of the box, you’ll be surprised by how heavy it weighs. With a weight of 2.2kg including the wrist rest (4.85 lbs), this is definitely one of the heaviest keyboards out there. Contributing to the weight are the metal frame and chassis, which in turn gives the ROG Azoth Extreme more rigidity. The weight also makes it a permanent fixture on your desk at lugging it around as a mobile keyboard is not a recommended setup.
What’s the use if you can’t even type well on a keyboard that costs as much as a mid-range GPU? Thankfully, the ROG Azoth Extreme is a great product when it comes to typing on it. While typing experience is relative to the user, I did find typing on the ROG Azoth Extreme a great experience. It’s also worth noting that the ROG Azoth Extreme uses ROG NX Switches, and in this review, the keyboard came with ROG NX Storm, the ones with more click. If you prefer a more “thocky” experience, you can get the ROG NX Snow variant of the ROG Azoth Extreme. Note that you can get the same switches with more “affordable” ROG keyboards.
Similar to its predecessor, the ROG Azoth Extreme sports an OLED Display, but this time, it has color and is more customizable. Part of the charm of this keyboard is that you can customize a lot of it to your liking, including the OLED Display. Want it to display any image that you want? You can. Want it to remind you of today’s date and time? You can. There’s much to do with the OLED display and it’s also pretty responsive with touch. Although practically speaking, you can do a lot more with just navigating your desktop but then again, it ain’t cool if it ain’t on your keyboard, right?
The Wrist Rest is as great as it gets. Given the price of this thing, the you can at least expect a decent wrist rest. It’s made of soft rubber and the texture is soft but not as soft as the ones with foams, and not as rigid like wooden wrist rests. The kicker here is that it also comes with its own metal plating underneath, preventing any deformation due to prolonged use. Unlike other ROG gaming keyboards, the wrist rest does not have any magnets that would attach it to the keyboard body.
Cats would love this thing but I highly recommend that you keep them away from this.
Without any shred of doubt, the ROG Azoth Extreme is a keyboard built for extreme gamers. Sure, it’s not going to give you that extra edge in your competitive video games if you have an already decent gaming keyboard (surprise, surprise), but it does have a good number of customizable features, packaged with a lot of stuff, and ridiculously great build quality. As it name implies, it is an extreme keyboard built for excess and for those that “dare” to buy it. The product itself commands a high price, that is for sure once you start using it, but the exorbitant pricing is a very tall wall to climb even for those willing to pay for extra. A keyboard enthusiast friend also mentioned that keyboards of this quality can be assembled at a lesser price. However, it’s also worth saying that they do not have the ROG brand and logo.
Don’t get me wrong. The ROG Azoth Extreme is an exceptional gaming keyboard. Even with its price tag, it’s undeniable that it is a product built and designed meticulously, and with great care. ASUS ROG has been releasing great gaming keyboards recently in the ROG Falchion, the ROG Azoth, and their ROG Strix Scope series, and the ROG Azoth Extreme runs in the same vein. It’s a great quality product with good features and is designed to be something you can be proud of buying. While it is not everyman’s keyboard, it is made for those that can go the extra mile and ASUS ROG really made this thing extra special with that extra special price tag.
The ROG Azoth Extreme is available in the Philippines and can be bought online or via your favorite local gaming peripheral stores. The keyboard has a price tag of PhP 27,900.
