Upon grasping the ROG Keris II Ace, you’ll immediately notice its lightness. Weighing only 54g minus the 2.4GHz dongle, this thing weighs almost next to nothing. The weightless feeling translates well if you’re in high-stakes matches where-in each split second counts. Also, the lightness helps if you frequently use your PC in extended periods of time. This also makes the ROG Keris II Ace a good partner for mobile users and for those who usually move around with gaming laptops.
Included in the package is a USB dongle that you can use to further enhance the polling rate of the ROG Keris II Ace. For wired setups, the polling rate can be boosted up to 8000Hz while 4000Hz is the limit for wireless. While the effects of higher polling rates are not that noticeable, it’s still a good feature to have especially if you use gaming monitors with high refresh rates.
The ROG Keris II Ace can be connected in a lot of ways. You can either connect it via USB cable or via the included 2.4Ghz dongle, or via Bluetooth. When wired, you can also just charge it directly from your PC, removing the need for a removable battery. With that said, it does require you to charge it from time to time.
While it does ring true that the use case for the ROG Keris II Ace is for first-person shooters, fear not if you are normal and play a lot of other games. The ROG Keris II Ace does have the hardware but is also convenient to use in other video game genres and in using your computer in general. Although you might be hard-pressed to fully utilize its top-of-the-line sensors and hardware, it’s undeniable that it still is a great everyday mouse.
What is striking is that the ROG Keris II Ace has only one RGB lighting and that is its mouse wheel. Other than that, you won’t find anything that glows on this device. This adds a bit of simplicity and also more of practicality as the absence or the heavy reduction of lighting bolsters the battery life, making the ROG Keris II Ace a more efficient wireless gaming mouse.
One thing is pretty apparent once you start using the ROG Keris II Ace – it’s incredibly comfortable to use. It glides on most surfaces and the lightness of the mouse itself is noticeable. Although light gaming mices are the “in” thing these days, most of them don’t have that light or “premium” feel to it. The ROG Keris II Ace has it. It looks great, performs well, and is comfortable to use even in long stretches of gaming sessions.
What is confusing is that the ROG Keris II Ace is trying to fulfill a role that has already been served by some of its siblings. Take the ROG Harpe Ace Aim Lab Edition and the ROG Strix Impact III Wireless. Both are roughly the same but are only differentiated by the hardware inside them. However, if you are not that much of a competitive player and would like to have a decent gaming mouse for everyday, the ROG Strix Impact III Wireless would be the better choice. While you might argue that the ROG Keris II Ace is for FPS, the same can also be said for the two.
With all things considered, the ROG Keris II Ace is a pretty solid choice for a gaming mouse. It’s light, easy to use and has the necessary stuff that you need on a gaming peripheral. It’s not too flash and the simplicity of it all is a charm in itself. If you need one wireless gaming mouse to fulfill your gaming needs and your daily productivity/workload, you can never go wrong with this one.
As of the writing of this article, the ROG Keris II Ace still does not have a local SRP. However, we can confirm that it will launch here in the Philippines and will be available via both offline and online retail stores.
