In Expeditions Rome, you get to encounter a side quest called A Carpet Befitting a Queen in Act 2. In this side quest, Cleopatra tasks you with getting her a carpet for her stay inthe Court of Heaven. How should you get this carpet? Should you get the cheaper one or the one in Memphis? Let’s find out with this guide!
After surviving the ambush in the main story quest, Strange Alliances, you can head back to the Court of Heaven to talk to Cleopatra to get this quest. Talking to Cleopatra reveals her wishes for a carpet to complement her stay in the middle of nowhere. As this is a side quest, you can choose to take on this quest or not.
This quest may be connected to romancing Cleopatra as she uses the carpet to make her entry at the end of Act 2. Choose your answers carefully and do the quest if you want to get her romance achievement and her special trophy.
You can opt for the easy way to solve this quest by getting the cheapest carpet in the market. You can buy the carpet from the Supply Trader in Court of Heaven for 100 denarii.
Giving Cleopatra the cheapest carpet dismays her and can affect your relationship with her down the line. But I guess it’s better than nothing, right?
Alternatively, you can go the extra mile ang get Cleopatra the more expensive carpet (or act as a lapdog as per Julia). Memphis is a bit to the southeastern part of the map. It is a long trip from the Court of Heaven but is worth it as you also get to discover new regions you can pacify. After reaching Memphis, head further into the city and talk to the Supply Trader. You can either steal the carpet provided you have the Pathos rhetorical style or buy it from him for 300 denarii.
Giving the expensive carpet to Cleopatra, she notices the handprints but you can convince her to ignore it. She takes it far better than she would if you have given her the cheaper one.
You can safely make a beeline to Memphis if you want to immediately clear this quest. You don’t have to worry about encountering any dangerous foes along the way. Arriving at Memphis also allows you to meet several people that can also help you in completing other side quests.
