In Expeditions: Rome, fire can be a fickle mistress. It can help you during combat or can spell your team’s doom if left uncontrolled. Traveling through them also inflicts the dreaded Burn status, damaging characters over time and reducing maximum HP. So how do you put them out? Here’s how!
You can use water to douse hexes that are on fire. You can also use water to drench characters to prevent them from being reduced to cinders. This mechanic is first introduced in the quest, Temple Fire. You can get water jugs to use against the fire from the vase located beside the statue. Use it to douse the fire and to prevent it from spreading further.
Completion of the sidequest also rewards you with a schematic for a Water Jug. You can start crafting it for your team to use once you have an armory for your legion camp. You can bring this item along to remove the burning status effect or to remove fire from hexes. Just know that it does not remove “Burn” so you may need to use Bandages to heal your teammates.

When drenched in Water, characters get +80% Fire Resistance. This helps prevent the damaging “Burning” status that reduces max HP and inflicts damage per turn. Keep in mind that enemies too can get Wet.
In some battlefields, you can make use of jars, vases, and fountains to get water. You can use the water to save teammates or to remove Greek fire from the hexes.
