In an in-game event, Grand Master Kai will contact you and reward you with an advanced class of your choosing. You can select the Paladin here to get it without being at the mercy of random mission rewards.
You can view mission rewards beforehand to see if they will reward you with a Paladin. Check often when missions spawn as you may see other advanced classes as mission rewards. Just be prepared to spend a 2 or 3 Requisition points to get the Paladin using this method.
Knight Requisition affects the spawn rate of advanced classes in the game. Upgrade them when you can if you want more of the rarer classes to appear.
You can decide to forego the Storm Bolter for a Storm Shield for additional Defense and armor. If you have a decent Storm Shield, a Paladin can have a ridiculous amount of Armor per turn. When it comes to tanking damage, the Paladin is second to none. Equip a Warding Stave with auto Aegis Shield after your turn to complete the whole package.
Emperor’s Will is an ability that grants 2 WP to another Grey Knight at the cost of 2 WP. It can be upgraded to cost 0 AP with a Warp Charged version giving all of the Paladin’s WP to the target Grey Knight.
Fury of Ancients is one of the must-have skills of the Paladin. It’s an offensive ability that delivers devastating damage to those in front of the Paladin. When upgraded this ability can deal a whopping 12 Damage with Knockback and increased range.
Smite is a warp skill that damages enemies from a maximum of Range 10 in exchange for just 1 AP. When upgraded it can do a decent 4 Armour Pierce damage, allowing you to do clutch kills or support.
Defend Position is an ability that buffs the Paladin with additional Armor. It also sets a circle around the Paladin in which anything that enters will be attacked automatically. You can use this to screen your backline or to defend from enemy assaults. If you plan on using this skill a lot, best equip a weapon with Knockback to drive away enemies and leave them open to fire from your supports. This skill also stacks with Aegis Shield.
Fortress is an ability that can be utilized by both the Justicar and the Librarian. It allows the Grey Knight to transfer all of its Armor to another Grey Knight located anywhere in the battlefield. Unfortunately, the Paladin lacks this ability and you may have to decide if taking the Paladin is better than a Justicar with the Fortress ability.
